About Aaron Troy

I am a dedicated Chief Operating Officer and Director, responsible for leading the operational aspects of APEM Group (Australia) and Biosis, providing strategic leadership, and collaborating closely with our discipline managers and business support teams. With a 20-year tenure in the environmental industry, my career has encompassed roles as a lecturer, research scientist, and consultant. Throughout my professional journey, I have held various leadership positions, gaining extensive experience in both project management and business development. In 2002, my aquatic ecology career began with an exploration of the chemistry and macroinvertebrates of inland waters at La Trobe University, where I also earned my honours degree. My association with La Trobe continued as I transitioned into the role of a Chemistry Lecturer and Freshwater Ecology Researcher, collaborating with key agencies in the field, including the Murray Darling Freshwater Research Centre and the North East and Goulburn Broken CMAs. In 2009, I joined Biosis as an Aquatic Ecologist in the Sydney Office, bringing expertise in the design, establishment, and monitoring of aquatic environments, with a specific focus on macroinvertebrates and AUSRIVAS methodology. My dedication and proficiency quickly earned me a promotion to Consultant Aquatic Ecologist in July 2010. Subsequently, I assumed managerial roles, serving as the Sydney Resource Group Manager in January 2011, Melbourne Resource Group Manager in October 2013, and Operations Manager - Victoria in July 2015. As my career evolved into a management trajectory, I completed my MBA in 2018, which further equipped me for leadership roles. Consequently, I was promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer in July 2018. In recognition of my increasing strategic contributions, I also assumed the role of Associate Director in February 2021 and subsequently Director in September 2023. Upon the acquisition of Biosis by APEM Group in 2024, I have now moved into a role as Director - Operations (Australia). My leadership style is marked by a positive and open communication approach, fostering trust through meticulous analysis and valuable advice. Additionally, my proficiency in finance and people management has been instrumental in steering APEM Group and Biosis toward enduring success.
