Background
About Aashi Yadav
I'm a junior at the Kelley School of Business studying information systems and business analytics. Today, so much of our lives depend on technology, and I believe the possibilities for it to better our world are limitless. One idea I'm especially curious about is how technology and business can be used to make the fashion industry more sustainable. Outside of my academic life, I love to explore my creative ideas. My most recent effort to do that was creating a magazine in collaboration with the Eskenazi School of Art and Architecture: Fashion Design B.F.A Runway Show. It was an incredible experience that I will never forget - I got to model for the show as well, which was so fun! To create the magazine, I spent many days of my second semester interviewing fashion design students about the collection they were designing, hearing about the inspirations of their design, struggles they were facing, and what the creative process felt like for them. I then edited these interviews and designed a physical zine and website that runway show attendees could read. During that same semester, I was on a team of consultants working with a local small business client. This was part of a class: T275 1Kelley Consulting. I loved the challenge of it, learned the importance of clear, timely communication and how business research can be applied to make recommendations to issues a business might be facing. These projects were some of my most memorable experiences at IU so far. While they are in completely different disciplines,(journalism, graphic design, and writing vs. small business consulting) I developed similar skills by working on them, and learned lessons I'll never forget. Some of my takeaways-Treat the people you work with as human beings. It's to not be at your best everyday-Treat yourself as a human being too! You need rest-Sometimes the most valuable insights come from conversations or questions that were not planned beforehand. Leave room for surprises and be ready to adapt to changing situations-Talk to people about what you're interested in, and really listen when they talk about what they are passionate about. It is one of the best ways to genuinely connect with someone.
