Background
About Aasiya Malik
Whilst studying for my BA Primary Education with QTS at University, I specialised in English and Modern Foreign Languages [MFL] and additionally gained a qualification in PE. I have had placements across EYFS, KS1 and KS2. My interest in inspiring young people stimulated me to become a primary school teacher and work abroad with additional language [ESL] pupils. My role here was to plan and deliver all subject lessons as well as assessing their educational attainment. This enabled me to develop my skills in utilising a range of strategies in planning to academically enhance English as an additional language learner’s achievement while assessing pupil progress by administering tests and evaluating the results; compiling termly and end-of-year student reports. A key part of my career is helping students fulfil their potential, which I work towards by focusing on planning individualised learning to improve and sustain their attainment. Additionally, I am a registered back-up foster carer in the UK and have several years’ experience in managing looked after children. Key responsibilities of this role are to provide day-to-day care for a child/young person, taking account of complex needs for those separated from their families. Furthermore, I have skills in promoting the healthy growth and development with an emphasis on education and health. I attend and actively participate in all reviews, facilitating family/contact meetings and courses as required and am involved in Looked After Reviews and Child Safety Planning meetings with relevant officials. Currently, I am working at a PRU, with mixed age groups. I have established positive relationships with the pupils, parents and other staff in the school. I have set up new displays in the classroom, with the essential learning information, reward systems and set each child a target on what they need to work on. I have formed trusting relationships with each of my students and promoted an engaging learning environment. Furthermore, I have established a well–rounded skill set of how to adjust the lesson to manage any behavioural issues whilst maintaining a calm classroom. As demonstrated by my experience in schools, I am enthusiastic about education and always strive to do the best for my students. I take on responsibility for learning and have experience of successfully managing a class. I also have the enthusiasm and determination to ensure that I make a success of this role. I believe that my fostering experience has significantly helped in making me a great teacher who can empathise with each child.
