About Abbas Shiri
My research holds a unique place in the field of optics, as I am working with one of the only research groups in the United States to focus on a new type of structured light field, namely space-time wave packets. Our group was responsible for the initial development and implementation of space-time wave packets, and is now notably leading a joint collaboration, funded by an Office of Naval Research Multiple University research initiative grant in learning and developing the technique. My contributions, in particular, to space-time wave packets involve their use in terms of enhancing the performance of optical resonators and waveguides, both concepts of critical importance to applications such as communications, photovoltaics and quantum computing. In my work, not only have I contributed to the research, but have also authored and co-authored numerous publications, allowing me to develop my skills in communicating the results to the scientific community.
