Background
About Abbey Warren
As a candidate for the Master of Science degree in Psychology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette), I have developed valuable skills and gained experience in the field of psychology through the teaching, research, and clinical training opportunities afforded to me by the program. For two years, I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at UL Lafayette, and my work consisted of guest lecturing, teaching introductory psychology courses to non-major psychology students, and assisting the psychology faculty in their courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. For my clinical field practicum, I spent one semester working under an LPC applying a contextual behavioral approach to intervening on client behavior in the therapy room, and I also spent an additional semester at the New England Center for OCD and Anxiety (NECOA) learning about exposure and contextually based approaches to treatment for anxiety and OCD. In addition, I have been a member of the Louisiana Contextual Science Research Group (LCSRG or “the lab”) conducting research under the supervision Dr. Emily Sandoz since the fall of 2018. As a member of the lab, I have been exposed to single-subject design, combined quantitative and qualitative analyses, seen multiple projects through from conceptualization to dissemination, presented at local and international professional research conferences, collaborated on publication, and gained experience in project management. The lab has provided me a space to explore my own interests in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Clinical Behavior Analysis, applications of Interbehavioral Psychology to clinical work, and other process-based approaches to therapy. These interests heavily influenced the development of my Master’s thesis, which assessed the effects of a process-based note-taking clinical tool on therapist state mindfulness and therapist perceptions of the therapeutic alliance with clients post-session. Currently, I am planning to graduate in December of 2023 and pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology where I can continue to conduct research and train as a clinician informed by a contextual behavioral perspective.
