About Abdedaim B.

I’m a PhD researcher at UNC Chapel Hill using the energy transition as a pathway to build stronger energy security. My work focuses on lithium-ion battery supply chains, especially lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, and how geopolitical competition (particularly between the U.S. and China) shapes the sourcing, refining, and recycling of critical minerals. I study the full battery lifecycle to identify where conflict and inequity arise and how concrete solutions like domestic sourcing, recycling, and Community Benefit Agreements (CBAs) can help resolve them. My current research includes-Analyzing water-related impacts of various LFP battery supply chain pathways -Exploring the role of CBAs in improving local outcomes in energy projects -Investigating policy options to diversify and secure critical mineral supply for the U.S. I bring over 10 years of project management experience across the public, private, academic, and nonprofit sectors. I previously served as CEO of Center Cadi Ayyad for Development, an NGO based in Marrakech, leading programs in sustainable development and capacity building. Now fully focused on academic research, I’m committed to advancing actionable frameworks that link energy transition goals with national security, community benefits, and long-term system resilience. As a connector, energy systems thinker, and public speaker, I welcome collaboration and idea-sharing.
