About Abdirizak Askar

As a Monitoring and Evaluation professional with over 10 years of experience, I have developed a strong background in designing, implementing, and managing M&E systems. My most recent role with the World Food Programme involved providing inputs to the development of monitoring, review, and evaluation plans that provided the most relevant and strategic information toward achieving expected results while being compliant with WFP evaluation and monitoring requirements. I also contributed to evidence-based decision-making on program design and implementation by making monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating findings accessible, and developing innovative, user-friendly, and informative products. In my previous role as a MEAL Expert with Welthungerhilfe, I managed, implemented, and developed the MEAL system and framework for the country program in Mali, coordinated MEAL experts, and documented good practices and lessons learned. I also contributed to the establishment of an effective complaints response mechanism and developed and implemented appropriate processes to enable the people we want to help to participate in the various stages of a project and influence project decisions. As a MEAL Specialist with ADRA, I provided strategic direction for the development and optimization of MEAL systems, established a coherent MEAL system encompassing both programs implemented by ADRA Somalia and with consortium partners, and developed and oversaw the implementation of robust context-appropriate systems for data collection, quality assurance, analysis, and reporting on activity outputs/outcomes and program quality. I am skilled in building M&E capacity of staff and partners through training and information sharing, managing junior staff members, and guiding as required to enable high performance. I am also experienced in integrating protection and gender perspectives in all areas of work to ensure equal participation of women and men.
