About Abdulkarim-H. Seid

Dr. Seid is the Country Representative for Ethiopoa and Regional Representative for the International Water Management Institute (IWMI). Earlier, he was the Deputy Executive Director and Manager of the Basin – Wide Program for the Nile Basin Initiative Secretariat.Earlier, as a consultant, he prepared hydrological designs for a number of major hydropower development projects in Ethiopia and the preparation of an integrated river basin development master plan covering irrigation development, flood mitigation and preparedness, urban and rural water supply and waste water disposal.As Decision Support System (DSS) Lead Specialist, Dr. Seid led the conception, development and operational use of the Nile Basin Decision Support System (NB DSS). The NB DSS is, the first comprehensive analytic tool jointly developed and owned by NBI member states. He led a task team drawn from the three NBI centers, consultants, and thematic experts from NBI countries in the formulation of the NBI Climate Change Strategy, the NBI Wetlands Strategy, the NBI Environmental Flow Management Strategy and the NBI Environment and Social Policy. He liaised with the NBI governance to get final approval of the Strategies, the NBI Environmental Flow Management Strategy and the Environment and Social Policy. Prior to joining the NBI, Dr. Seid was Assistant Professor at Addis Ababa University School of Engineering and taught courses in water resources management, hydrology, and water supply engineering and hydraulic structures design.
