About Abdulqadir Murgha

With over 13 years of experience in accounting and finance, I am a Manager, Corporate Accounting at CI Financial, one of Canada's largest independent asset management firms. I hold both the US CPA and Indian CA credentials, and have a strong background in financial and regulatory reporting and analysis, IFRS, governance and financial controls, integration and separation assistance, strategic planning, business plan preparation, financial modelling and forecasting, and auditing and assurance. In my current role, I report directly to the VP, Finance and CFO of CI Investments – asset management arm of Toronto Stock Exchange listed CI Financial (TSE: CIX), and lead the corporate accounting team of five members. I manage the day-to-day functions of the corporate accounting team, ensuring all deadlines for month-end close and financial reporting requirements are met in accordance with accounting policies and standard operating procedures/controls. I prepare the financial statements and monthly financial reports and analysis for senior management for the Asset Management segment and assist in the preparation of the consolidated financial statements. I also research technical accounting guidance and prepare IFRS memos for quarterly and annual audits. I have been involved in several special projects, such as upgrading the erstwhile accounting system to Workday, preparing and recording transactions pertaining to lease accounting in accordance with IFRS 16, creating an automated template for the recording of changes to the value of investment in securities held at FVOCI, IBOR transition (IFRS 9) and complex instrument transactions (IFRS 9 and IFRS 15).
