About Abhay Samant

Abhay Samant is Director of Systems R&D in the Aero/Def/Gov Business Unit at National Instruments. He is also an Adjunct Faculty in the McCombs School of Business and ECE department at UT-Austin. Prior to this, he was Vice President of Engineering at Hiller Measurements, where he was responsible for managing and growing a strong multi-disciplinary engineering team, focused on design, development and delivery of engineering systems for aero/defense, automotive, and semiconductor customers. His team is also responsible for product strategy, roadmap definition, and project execution. Before joining Hiller Measurements, Abhay was Section Manager in RF and Wireless Communications Product Marketing group. He was responsible for product development and outbound marketing strategy, focusing on RF and Communications product line. Target applications include mil/aero applications such spectrum monitoring, radar prototyping and test, avionics test, electronic warfare, and satellite communications. Earlier, Abhay served as Regional Marketing Manager for India, Russia, and Arabia. He was responsible for building a strong marketing team in the region, focused on building reputation and generating demand in these emerging markets. Abhay has also served in multiple roles in R&D, focusing on development of RF instrument drivers and communication algorithms for a variety of wireless standards. Abhay has built and managed big R&D development teams in Austin and Bangalore. Abhay has a PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, Masters in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kentucky.
