Background
About Abhishek Narayan
As a protein biophysicist, I am well-versed in all aspects of the field, including protein expression and purification (via affinity, ion-exchange, SEC using FPLC and HPLC), biophysical characterization (via CD, DSC, Fluorescence spectroscopy, DLS, Mass photometery, and single-molecule force spectroscopy (Optical Tweezers)), and functional characterization (via ITC, SPR, and enzyme assay). Using optical tweezers, I study the misfolding of superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) in ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Alberta. The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship, considered to be Canada's most prestigious, together with the Alberta Innovates Postgraduate Fellowship, are funding my postdoctoral research. My dissertation work for my Ph.D. has significantly advanced our knowledge of the molecular mechanism behind environmental sensing proteins in bacteria, which may be exploited as a therapeutic target. Multiple publications in high-impact international research journals, such as the Journal of the American Chemical Society (IF = 16.38) and Nature Communications (IF = 17.7), attest to the work's preeminence. I was awarded the prestigious BIRAC-SRISTI Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Award, which was personally presented to me by the President of India. As one of the top researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, I was recognized twice with prestigious awards (Institute Research Scholar award 2017 and 2018). I was a graduate student when I received a 1.5 million INR grant from BIRAC-SRISTI to investigate the rationale behind the development of sensory proteins as potential therapeutic targets for multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae. Currently, I am looking for a new endeavor that will allow me to contribute considerably to human health. Specific fields of interest include Protein Engineering, Biotechnology, Biologics and Pharmaceuticals.
