Background
About Abigail Debrine
I am a PhD student at the University of Wisconsin - Madison in the Microbiology Doctoral Training Program, in the lab of Dr. JD Sauer. My research focuses on carbon source uptake and utilization as it pertains to virulence in Listeria monocytogenes. Which I use as model to understand more broadly what is important for metabolism of intracellular pathogens. I completed my Honors Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with an option in Advanced Molecular Biology at Oregon State University. My undergraduate thesis, was done with Dr. Daniel Rockey, in the Biomedical Sciences department of Oregon State University. Where I studied a family of proteins in Chlamydia trachomatis to better understand their structure, and their potential for vaccine creation. I am interesting in microbiology, human disease, and cellular metabolism. My passion is ultimately for bacterial pathogenesis. I hope to do research that leads to improvements in human health and longevity. I am eager to make connections and am open to new opportunities as I pursue this field, and would love to connect.
