About Abigail Steffens

I love serving others and empowering local communities as we navigate solutions to a more sustainable future. My professional and educational experiences have strengthened my desire to bring awareness, compassion, and tangible human health improvements through environmental equity and our built environment. I value communication, transparency, and service to continuously improve myself, my team and my projects. I find great value in supporting equitable systems. I want to have a hand in making the sustainable choice the routine in people's daily lives. My undergraduate studies focused on health science and psychology. Both of those areas fueled my passion for a sustainable connection between humans and the environment which led me to earning my Master's in Sustainability. I have worked as a BPI certified energy auditor on residential homes in Iowa, focusing on low-income home energy assistance program (LIHEAP) participants. I have also worked with municipal housing codes, performed weatherization installs, provided education and outreach presentations on home energy efficiency and managed small projects within U.S. Green Building Council’s STAR community rating system as well as ENERGY STAR Home Performance assessments. Additionally, I have led partnerships between campus and municipal waste reduction efforts. I currently work with TRC Companies on California residential electrification programs.
