About Abigail Torres

I am an Environmental Engineer with over three years of experience in water and wastewater treatment, regulatory compliance, and environmental data analysis. My career is driven by a deep commitment to sustainability and continuous learning—shaped by personal resilience and a passion for making a measurable impact through engineering. After earning my Associate's degree from El Paso Community College, I transferred to Texas Tech University, where I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Environmental Engineering. My technical foundation was built at the University of Texas at El Paso, where I worked alongside Dr. Shane Walker at the Center for Inland Desalination. There, I mastered instrumentation such as ICP, IC, TOC, and alkalinity testing, and developed Python scripts for managing and analyzing water quality data. I further expanded my field and regulatory knowledge as a student assistant with Dr. Kayleigh Millerick on a Radon Awareness project, managing testing kits and translating outreach materials into Spanish for broader community engagement. In Summer 2023, I interned with OxyChem in Wastewater Operations, where I applied practical solutions to reduce ammonia spikes and support compliance initiatives. Currently, I’m part of the engineering team at CDM Smith, where I prepare cost estimates, develop technical specifications, and contribute to regulatory submissions for projects under TCEQ and EPA oversight. My goal is to continue growing as a well-rounded environmental professional—merging field experience, technical analysis, and public impact to support sustainable infrastructure and environmental health.
