About Abigail Walsh

Over the past decade I have built a career in social services. I have completed an undergraduate degree in English and History at Laurentian University, and a one year post-graduate certificate in Addiction Treatment and Prevention from Georgian College. I am currently working towards completing my BSW through the University of Manitoba. Over the past 13 years, I have built a career in social services, working mostly in addiction and mental health counselling and case management. I have completed an undergraduate degree in English and History at Laurentian University, a one-year post-graduate certificate in Addiction Treatment and Prevention from Georgian College, and I am currently working towards my Bachelor of Social Work through distance education at the University of Manitoba. I have an excellent working knowledge of addictions and mental health evidence-based practice and therapeutic clinical treatment modalities, in the context of a client-focused community mental health setting. In my roles as an Addiction Counsellor, College Instructor, and Case Manager with Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia, I have demonstrated management skills, and I am adept at problem solving, critical thinking, conflict resolution, and negotiation. I have a good understanding of relevant legislation (including PHIPA, Freedom of Information, Protection of Privacy and Consent). I am energetic and adaptable, with the excellent initiative and organizational skills, and the ability to manage time and resources effectively. As a helping professional, I am committed to working within a client-centred approach to support clients and peers with integrity and accountability.
