About Abigail Walsh

I am a highly motivated and creative researcher, with a passion for developing and improving language technology for low-resourced languages. I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Linguistics and Language at Trinity College Dublin, where I graduated with First Class Honours in 2016. I completed my PhD, titled "The Automatic Processing of Multiword Expressions in Irish", at the ADAPT Centre at Dublin City University in 2023. My current research focuses on improving language technology for Irish, particularly the processing and creation of language resources for multi-word expressions (MWEs) and other idiomatic constructions, for integration in NLP tasks such as machine translation and syntactic parsing. My background in applying cutting-edge language technology methodology to lower-resource languages has provided me with a diverse skill set to apply to a variety of disciplines in NLP and AI. My strengths include excellent written and verbal communication skills, creative and out-of-the box thinking, good collaboration and interpersonal skills, and a passionate interest in my subject.
