About Abraham Lebel

As a marine science major at SMCC, I'm in pursuit of a career that will allow me to work directly with the ocean or the environment. My interest in the ocean first developed as a young boy, stemming from trips to visit family in Cape Cod. Growing up in a small town outside of Bangor, these trips to Cape Cod were the major extent of my experience with the big blue. Although I was captivated from a young age, it wasn't until I moved to South Portland that I was truly able to understand and appreciate my passion for the ocean. My studies at SMCC began with an associate’s degree in liberal studies, as I was initially unsure of what I wanted to do in the future. I quickly fell in love with the campus, Willard Beach, and the surrounding area that reinforced my connection and sense of responsibility to the ocean. I've strengthened this connection upon returning to SMCC in pursuit of a marine science degree, kayaking (and pretending to fish) the waters of Casco Bay, and getting the opportunity to intern at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute.
