This is Abusaleh Shariff. I have over 30 years of research and teaching experience at senior and management levels in the areas of applied economics, development economics, demography, human development, sociology, gender empowerment, food security and child nutrition and health: working as Chief Scholar and Mentor, US-India Policy Institute, Washington D.C since early 2011. Was Chief Economist/Senior Fellow (Professor Level) at National Council of Applied Economic Research, New Delhi since 1994. Was adviser to Prime Minister and Home Minister of India for long periods during 2005 and 2010. I have worked in multi-disciplinary and multicounty research environment and employed both quantitative methods (including econometrics and large scale longitudinal research designs) and qualitative (semi-anthropological field based studies) in the area of establishing relationship between mother’s education and child health. I am a recognized applied economist and demographer addressing issues at local, state, and federal levels. Most recent work is ‘district development and diversity index’ for about 600 district of India. Post-doctoral research in areas of intra-household economics and family demography from Economic Growth Centre of Yale University, the USA. Have published over a dozen books mostly by the Oxford University Press. His most recent publication ‘Institutionalizing Constitutional Rights in India: Post-Sachar Committee Scenario’, by Oxford University Press, New Delhi is scheduled by on the shelves in January 2016.
