About Abuzafar Ali

Over 23 years of broad experience in the nuclear industry, in the areas of design and systems engineering, commissioning, equipment reliability, quality assurance, cybersecurity, software, nuclear I&C engineering, and project management. Highlights of credentials include: • Over the years I have been involved in various leadership positions to lead design activities for various capital/mega projects. • I have also inspired various engineers to manage and improve equipment reliability of a number of safety-related systems in Pickering Station. • Lead the engineering team to drive successful design, installation, and commissioning of Darlington Refurbishment Turbine Generator controls upgrade project in U3. • My project/design experience includes oversight activities for design vendors, supervision of design teams to perform in-house design and design oversight activities for external design vendors. • Worked as a delegated design authority in Bruce-A Nuclear Power Plant Units 1 & 2 Restart Project. • I have served as joint OPG/COG representative in Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) NPAC I&C Research Integration Committee meetings. I have served as chairperson of the EPRI I&C RIC committee from 2020-2022. Also served as chairperson for COG Turbine Generator workshops from 2020-2022. • Graduate of OPG Emerging Talent program (2012) and Cohort-5 of OPG Accelerate program (2018). • I have completed Nuclear Advance Operations Overview for Manager (AOOM), Nuclear Professional Development Seminar (NPDS), and Leadership Academy training. I have also recently completed external training “Better Leaders” by Witz Academy and “Peer Coaching” by The Roundtable. I am also a coach and facilitator for Kepner-Tregoe (KT) method for systematically solving problems and making decisions.* Design Authority qualified for Darlington Nuclear Power Plant.
