I am a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida International University, Miami, Florida, with a passion for developing advanced materials and innovative sample preparation technologies to solve real-world analytical challenges.My research focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and application of novel sol-gel derived materials for chromatographic stationary phases, microextraction sorbents, nanoparticles, microporous and mesoporous functionalized sorbents, and molecularly imprinted polymers. These materials enable the sensitive and selective analysis of trace and ultra-trace analytes—from polar and nonpolar compounds to ionic species and heavy metals—in complex sample matrices.As the inventor of fabric phase sorptive extraction (FPSE), dynamic fabric phase sorptive extraction (DFPSE), capsule phase microextraction (CPME), in-vial microextraction (IVME), and various advanced stationary phases and sorbents, I am committed to developing greener, faster, and more efficient analytical techniques that are accessible and practical for laboratories worldwide.Over my career, I have authored 36 patents,~30 book chapters,~30 review articles, nearly 200 peer-reviewed research papers, and presented over 200 conference papers.
