About Ad van Iterson

I write fiction (novels, short stories, columns) and social theory essays. My latest book,'De Moeder van de Kommel' is a reworking of a 17th century ego document by the Dutch monastery founder Elisabeth Strouven. Before that, I published the campus novel 'Aanhalingen', which satirizes fraudulous behavior as well as the 'publish or perish' pressure in academia. Currently I work on a my memoires as assistant of sociologist Norbert Elias during his Amsterdam years during which he received wide recognition for his early work on civilising processes in Western Europe. My current academic lecturing and thesis supervising focusses on economic agents' biographies, rumor and gossip, impression management, and work floor creativity. I publish monographies as well as articles in refereed journals. My weekly column depicts Maastricht (my hometown) life. I received my PhD with a thesis on labour disciplining in the factory system.
