About Adam Eckley

I currently support the Resilience Advisors Network on a range of International and UK based projects and training programmes, providing strategic advice to key commercial clients and government stakeholders in the Middle East on the transformation of Civil Defense, Fire and Rescue Services and Community Safety Services. In addition, I was responsible for the provision of strategic advice to a major UK infrastructure provider to support key elements of a significant infrastructure expansion programme and I am currently helping with a new piece of work for a large UK University. After a 33-year career I recently retired as Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive of the UK’s fifth largest Fire and Rescue Service and during my time in the fire service I served in two of the UK’s largest Fire and Rescue Services, 18 years in strategic management roles. I am a skilled, passionate and energetic strategic manager who has extensive experience of organisational transformation across a number of functional areas. I have a proven track record of leading transformational change in Community Safety, Property Asset Management, Vehicle and Equipment Asset Management, Information and Communication Technology, Health, Safety & Welfare and Workforce and Organisational Culture. More recently, as part of the cultural transformation of the Fire and Rescue Service in my area, I led the organisation through a change in the political governance model, moving away from a Combined Fire Authority to becoming the first UK Fire and Rescue Service to be under the oversight and governance of a Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner. I have led several large, Regional, multi-million pound procurement projects for Firefighter Personal Protective Equipment and Specialist Fire Appliances, delivering both improvements in the quality of products and significant cost efficiencies. For the last five years of my fire service career, in addition to my CFO role, I also held the position of Head of the County Council’s Civil Protection and Emergency Management arrangements and was a long standing Chairman of the multi-agency Resilience Forum overseeing planning, preparation, response and recover phases of emergencies including major fires, wide area flooding, local and national Industrial Action by firefighters and repeated threats from East Coast surge tides. I have a Masters degree in Business Administration and I had the honour and privilege to be awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal in the 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours for distinguished Fire Service.
