I personally incline more towards the "back-end" of things. I'd rather read some code than an outdated documentation. I enjoy inspecting packets with wireshark or tcpdump, step debugging 3rd party libraries and disassembling pieces of C++, for example, to see what OOP looks like on the lowest level. I'm fascinated by database engines, their underlying algorithms and datastructures. And I also wouldn't say no to a good conversation about distributed system design and higher level software architecture, where I tend to take the "the less moving parts the better" stance.
