About Adam Lichtenheld

I am a social scientist, author, and policy advisor with expertise in migration and displacement, conflict, peacebuilding, and international development. I have led studies; supervised cross-functional research and evaluation teams (including RCTs and quasi-experimental evaluations); conducted risk assessments; taught courses and trainings; translated data and evidence into actionable insights; and advised governments, donors, and practitioners on learning, program design, implementation, and evaluation in a dozen countries. Through my work in academia (Berkeley, Yale, Stanford, Leiden), with government agencies (USAID, State Dept, DoD), NGOs (Mercy Corps, IRC) and multilateral donors (World Bank, UNHCR), I have written extensively on socioeconomic development, stabilization, violence prevention, migration, governance, political-military dynamics, and other issues. I have worked and conducted quantitative and qualitative research in Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, South Sudan, Syria, Turkey, Uganda, and the U.S.
