About Adam Long

My background is diversified in Higher Education, Finance, & Banking. While those may seem like quite a bit different backgrounds, I have found that my experience in each area allows me to find common ground with customers of all ages, all demographics, and backgrounds.I was born in a small town: Shelby, IA. When I reached 2nd grade, my family relocated to a beautiful town in northern Iowa - Garner. I lived there until the summer before my freshman year of high school. At that time, my family moved to Avoca, IA - to rejoin the friends that I grew up with while attending Shelby-Tennant in Pre-K-2nd Grade. After graduating High School, I attended Iowa Western Community College. Upon graduation, I began my professional career at IWCC. I am forever thankful for the education I received and the professional experience I gained at IWCC. While working at IWCC, I completed my B.S. Business Management / Marketing at Bellevue University.I really enjoyed my time working in Higher Education, but I had an opportunity to come back "home" to Avoca and begin working in Finance, as the Business Manager of a local Ford and GM dealership. In this role, I quickly realized that my passion for helping customers with financial needs was greater than I ever imagined - I loved it! After 5 years of building relationships in the auto industry, I saw an opportunity to work for a highly regarded local bank, Shelby County State Bank - allowing me to combine my management experience and expand my lending portfolio to not just auto finance, but mortgages, commercial, and agricultural lending in my hometown. My family is my rock. My wife, Katelynn, is a 4th grade teacher at AHSTW. During the summer months, she operates our business, Stars & Stripes Fireworks in Avoca. We have 2 girls, Maddie & Makenzie, and a son, Nolan. During the summer evenings, you can find me on a baseball field - I have been an umpire for 14 years. I don't consider umpiring a "job", but more as a service to the community. As far as community involvement goes, I am an elected official - serving as Park Board Commissioner for the city of Avoca & School Board Director for AHSTW School District. I have served as Chairman on the City of Avoca Urban Renewal Board as well. All of these values line up with the mission of Shelby County State Bank - Family, Service, Community - and that's why I'm proud to be here.
