About Adam Mayberry

I'm a proud native Nevadan with more than 30 years of experience in public service and a product of public education. I've had the privilege of raising my family in this community I love. My two daughters are proud graduates of the Washoe County School District, giving me a personal understanding of what makes our schools and community strong. A deep connection to Sparks is why I'm running for City Council Ward 4. Public service has the power to make a real difference in people's lives, and I'm ready to bring my collaborative approach and proven track record to help address the challenges facing our growing community. My recent experience on the Washoe County School Board exemplifies this commitment. I was appointed in November 2021 to complete a vacant term and then elected to serve a four-year term. During my time on the School Board, I fought for the highest compensation our teachers have ever received. I've played a governance role in shaping priorities and exercising oversight of a $1 billion annual budget while maintaining fiscal responsibility with no deficits and a strong bond rating of AA from S&P and Aa2 from Moody's. I'm proud that we kept our promise to voters by successfully passing WC-1 and using those funds to open new schools, including Debbie Smith Career and Technical Education Academy High School, JWood Raw Elementary School, and the new Hug High School, while rebuilding O'Brien and Vaughn Middle Schools and modernizing Reed High School, to name a few. This represents my core philosophy: a promise made is a promise kept. I have spearheaded a new aviation curriculum, implemented increased safety protocols, advocated for enhanced penalties to address student behavioral issues, and championed our students with special needs. I hold a bachelor's degree in business administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a graduate degree in political science from UNR. My career has focused on public administration, communications, and legislative affairs, with a strong emphasis on building relationships at all levels of government. My community involvement includes serving on the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board of Trustees from 2011 to 2017, chairing the board in 2013. I have volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Girl Scouts of the Sierras, and Junior Achievement. I was in the Chamber's Leadership Program, and I also served on the board of Secret Witness. I would be honored to take my experience to the Sparks City Council to represent what matters most to Ward 4.
