I have benefited greatly from living abroad and attending schools of differing cultures, including those in the Middle East, France and the UK.Following my A levels in Spanish, French and World Development, I completed my Batchelor's Degree (2:1) at The University of Nottingham.At Nottingham, I read Modern European Studies, which comprised: Politics; History; and German. Here, I focused on contemporary history, studying political trends and the rise of populist parties within Europe. Key study areas included immigration; citizenship; gender and development; and warfare. Although German was a new language for me, the course included a year abroad. In my case, I chose Austria, studying German Philology for a semester at the University of Vienna. The course taken included, linguistics; examining cultural diversity in understanding the German Language within societies and their politics; and assessing the role of media and technology in teaching and evolving the language.For my work experience, I was employed by a new-to-market restaurant (Stilbruch restaurant) in the heart of Vienna. My role was to devise and manage all external marketing and communications, which included driving on-line advocacy through social media and targeting reviews from food critics; citation on travel sites; and generating ambassadors from influential bloggers. The short-term goals were to raise a high public awareness to support the restaurants's opening; leverage feedback and reviews to increase table occupancy; and build loyalty through customer feedback. Through these efforts we were able to achieve high ratings and recommendations which opened new avenues such as catering including for Embassies; invitations to food fairs; and involvement in advertising within the gastronomic industry. After completing the length of time needed for my year abroad, I was asked to stay an additional 2 months, and left the week my final year commenced in Nottingham.
