About Adam Teeuwsen

In the year I started my career in the disability industry, working in a diverse range of environments and professional roles. From community residential and aged care units, private homes, aged care, and respite facilities to community access worker, personal care attendance (PCA), disability support worker (DSW), and holiday program worker. Working as a teacher aide in both state and Catholic schools from 2006 allowed me to appreciate the level of commitment, merit, and challenge that teachers face. For me, it was a lifestyle choice and lifelong career, not just a job. I was able to develop skills in critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, conflict resolution, team building, and peer collaboration. In 2011 I coincided my passion for learning with the arts industry, coordinating art-respite programs for adults with a disability. The nationally certified and accredited Bachelor of Education from Monash University has allowed me to teach across all three sectors: primary, secondary and special education. In 2018 I started working as a Casual Relief Teacher (CRT) for two locally reputable recruitment agencies. In addition to my certificate IV in disability work, I have also undergone a vast array of workshops and seminars in medical, OH & S and learning development. I have a keen interest in staff and student wellbeing, ICT and media studies, performing and visual arts, and personal/work-related skills development (PDS, WDS). I place a strong emphasis’ on student inquiry, high-quality teaching, cooperative and collaborative learning, constructive reflection and positive workplace cultures. I enjoy the satisfaction in making a real difference in the lives of the students I teach and staff I work with. I see students as young learners seeking knowledge, teachers as life-long pioneers, and education as the development of human potential.
