About Adayr Shewmaker

Growing up I always had questions about the way the world worked, but nobody could provide answers for the questions I had. This is how I found myself as a Graduate Research Assistant in grad school while getting my Masters in Environmental Science Policy. Throughout grad school I started researching the three pillars of sustainability to better understand the way environment, economics, and society worked together. Due to this research I wrote my thesis on the sustainability in rural Texas, and how the 10 different ecoregions that make up Texas must be assessed by different environmental indicators pertaining to each ecoregion, as to not skew sustainability results. My time as a Graduate Research Assistant fostered a deep understanding of environmental justice and sustainable development, guiding my commitment to advancing sustainable practices within my community. During my time in grad school I began taking donations and creating care kits to give out to the homeless population in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. One of my passions is environmental justice and how this relates to the homeless population as my ultimate goal is to open a fully functioning homeless shelter with a rehab.
