About Addison Smith

After thinking I wanted to be a sports reporter my entire life, my career trajectory changed after volunteering with the Homeless Children's Education Fund my junior year of college. I saw firsthand the disparity in our education systems and was motivated to apply to Teach for America. Through Teach for America, I taught middle school English in Eastern North Carolina for three years. I was able to work with not only schools but the local community on leadership development and projects. However, I still knew that I could do more to fight educational inequity and accepted a spot at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College, where I pursued a masters in public policy and management. I think that data can impact every step in a child's education, and I pride myself on taking coursework that allowed me to become more technical in analyzing student and school data. When I am not nerding out over data, you can find me watching hockey, reading a book, or snuggling with my cat.
