About Adelaide Braga

I completed my PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering at University of Minho (UM) in 2014. My PhD topic was focused on the biotechnological production of flavors. Under this scope I collaborated with Prof. Nicaud (expert on Y. lipolytica) from INRA, France. Afterwards, I was awarded a Post-doctoral position (contract) at Biotempo Ltd, under the EU funded project BachBerry (2015-2016), to develop a production process for polyphenols production and its subsequently upscale to pilot plant with integration of downstream processing for product purification. Later, I was awarded a Post-doctoral fellowship at CEB to improve the productivity of bio-flavors from cheap feedstock, combining strain selection and improvement, medium composition and culture condition optimization. Both from my PhD and Post-Doc experience, I gained strong knowhow on the development of new bioprocesses, strategies and concepts using synthetic biology approaches towards bioeconomy. Between 2014 and 2020, besides doing research, I was invited to teach and assume an Invited Assistant Professor position at UM. Between February and July 2024, I am responsible for the design and development of biobased processes at Silicolife.
