Background
About Adonis Skinner
Higher Education is my undeniable passion! Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working across multiple facets of education, from K-12 to higher education settings. My journey began in the classroom, where I taught in a diverse school environment, bringing a unique perspective as a first-generation college student myself. Teaching students from a variety of backgrounds taught me the importance of culturally responsive pedagogy and showed me how early educational experiences shape students' aspirations, preparedness, and overall confidence as they navigate their academic journeys. Transitioning into higher education, I expanded my role in enrollment management and student affairs, focusing on creating pathways for diverse students to access and thrive in college. In enrollment management, I was able to leverage my teaching experience to connect with prospective students and families authentically, helping them see how higher education could be within reach despite financial or social barriers. I developed a deep understanding of admissions practices, working to ensure that recruitment models were not only inclusive but also reflective of the communities they aimed to serve. My work in student affairs has allowed me to continue supporting students beyond the admissions process, helping them succeed and feel valued once they arrive on campus. I've witnessed firsthand how student-centered policies, programs, and support systems can transform the college experience, especially for those from marginalized backgrounds. These varied roles have given me a comprehensive perspective on the educational journey, underscoring my commitment to fostering inclusive, equitable environments at all stages of a student’s academic life.
