About Adri Marais

With a doctorate in English Studies, 15+ years work experience and an unrelenting love for language and literature, I combine expertise and passion in my chosen fields. Having worked not only as a tutor, teacher and lecturer, but also a researcher, writer, content creator, proofreader and editor while completing my studies, I have both academic know-how and industry experience, translating into a wider knowledge base and skillset to complement my dedication and fervour. Editing and ProofreadingMy academic background means that I am particularly skilled in academic editing. However, I have worked in many different fields, have some training in advertising and I teach a post-graduate course in English Editing at the University of Stellenbosch, meaning that I am well-versed and up-to-date in general editing practice. Education and ResearchI am passionate about gender equality, women's empowerment and the massive impact feminist writers have when they confront, dismantle and rewrite the canonical texts from which patriarchal culture draws its authority. My research interests include: feminist revision, feminist theology, gender and sexuality, queer theory, aging studies, post colonial theory and fairy tale studies.Writing A private and professional fascination with language and literature and the way words function to creative meaning, plus years of writing experience that range between copy-writing, creative writing and academic writing, means that I combine expertise and passion in my craft.
