About Adrian Allen

Background I have 20 years’ experience working in the field of biological research alongside quality managed, accredited molecular biological testing. My expertise has been focused on the application of population genetics in the areas of human and animal health – specifically focusing on uncovering the genetic basis of human and animal diseases and characterising the diversity and population structure of animals and their pathogens for epidemiological purposes. Throughout my career to date, I have enjoyed working for and alongside diverse partners in the human and veterinary health sectors. I consistently seek to broaden my experience within my fields of interest, participating in valued collaborations with other institutions and undertaking continuing professional development. A key example of the latter being that in 2015, I was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to investigate genomic epidemiological approaches to veterinary infectious diseases with zoonotic potential. I have good ambassadorial skills and seek to build consensus around new approaches. I am focused in progressing my career and developing my skill-base further. One of my strengths is that I am a generalist who has had to be flexible enough to learn new skills rapidly at all stages in my career. The latter is reflected in my varied research portfolio which can be accessed from my Google scholar and ResearchGate profiles at the links below: & hl=en Functional Summary - skills and experience: • Expertise in molecular biology – polymorphism genotyping, whole genome sequencing. • Experience in the application of bioinformatic and genetic analytical tools including those for Bayesian population structure determination and phylogenetics. • Background in life sciences with interest in the interplay between pathogens and their hosts. • Extensive experience with the running of molecular testing services conducted under ISO17025 and ISO9001 accreditation and certification standards. • Extensive experience in laboratory management including hazard and risk assessment. • Project planning and management skills evidenced by delivery of multiple collaborative laboratory and analytical collaborative projects. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to quickly understand nature of new projects and to respond to evolving working requirements and obstacles • Proven communication, presentation and mentoring skills for a variety of audiences including academic, government and industry.
