About Adrian Carter

British born architect and academic, living and working mostly in Denmark, also Finland, Norway and Australia. Studied at Portsmouth School of Architecture (Prof. Geoffrey Broadbent), The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen (Prof. Jan Gehl) and the University of Cambridge (Prof. Dalibor Vesely). Extensive Nordic and international architectural and urban design experience, having worked together with Professor Reima and Raili Pietilä in Helsinki, Niels Torp in Oslo, Ancher, Mortlock and Woolley in Sydney, Henning Larsen and Dissing+Weitling in Copenhagen. Architectural and urban design work has included public buildings, architectural design competitions, project management, master-planning and major civil-engineering projects, including the Finnish Embassy New Delhi, Sief’s Palace Kuwait, Tampere Library Finland, Aker Brygge harbour development Oslo, Illum’s Department Store Copenhagen, Walsh Bay housing Sydney, Storebælt Suspension Bridge, Denmark, Novi Nordisk Headquarters, Copenhagen and the European Embassies of the European Union Abuja, Nigeria. Academic and teaching experience at various institutions in Denmark (DIS, Royal Danish Academy, Aarhus School of Architecture and Aalborg University) and Internationally (University of Sydney, University of Portsmouth and University of Tasmania); and widely as a guest speaker, teacher and consultant. With a particular focus on Utzon, Nordic Architecture, a Tectonic and Phenomenological understanding of Architecture. From was responsible for establishing a new Masters programme in Architecture at Aalborg University, as an Associate Professor. Under the auspices of Aalborg University, initiated and established the Utzon Center (designed by Jørn Utzon with Kim Utzon’s office, completed 2008) and became its first Director. Established the Utzon Archive, International Utzon Symposiums and Utzon Summer Schools. 2014 -2024 Professor at the Abedian School of Architecture, Bond University, Queensland, Australia.
