Background
About Adrian Moore
I studied Genetics at Cambridge and completed a Ph.D. at the MRC Human Genetics Unit in Edinburgh. I moved to UCSF as a postdoc before becoming a team leader at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute (later relaunched as the Center for Brain Science) in Tokyo, where I have risen to the equivalent of a US Professor. I am also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Kyoto. Throughout my career, I have fostered a dynamic and thriving research environment in Japanese, US, and UK settings, each with its unique operational framework. Additionally, I have led or contributed to the work of international scientific societies and multi-PI multi-institutional programs. I run a well-funded group (averaging over annually) consisting of a steady state of 5–7 postdocs, students, and technical staff. We have successfully graduated six Ph.D. students with a 100% completion rate and hosted numerous interns and MSc students from top international universities. My group examines the regulatory control systems that guide neuron differentiation and morphogenesis. This reveals fundamental mechanisms that create form and function in the nervous system and contributes to explaining the dysregulated mechanisms that cause neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. To do this, we work with Drosophila, mice, and human neural stem cell and neuron cultures. I'm presently Chair of the Asian Pacific Drosophila Neurobiology Board. I'm a Section Editor for both Discover Neuroscience and Discover Developmental Biology. I'm on the Editorial board of Biology and Fly, and an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Cellular Neuroscience. I have a broad international perspective, a history of high academic accomplishments, an understanding of changing researcher demographics, and years of successful organization and leadership experience.
