Background
About Adrienne Jacques
Passionate about making a difference, I am a dedicated mental health social worker, currently specialising in working with the criminal justice system. With a commitment to advocacy, intersectional practice, and systemic change, I work at the junction of mental health and the law to support individuals navigating some of the most challenging circumstances of their lives. Through my experience, I’ve seen firsthand how mental health struggles, neurodiversity, and social inequalities can lead individuals into the justice system—often due to a lack of adequate support, early intervention, and resources. My role is to navigate that gap, ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive the care, guidance, and interventions they need to build better lives - shaped by their choices. I collaborate with police, courts, probation services, healthcare providers, and community organisations to develop person-centred strategies that address both immediate concerns and long-term plans co-designed with my clients. Whether it’s exploring alternatives to custody, connecting individuals with essential mental health services, or working on policy initiatives that promote social justice, my goal is always the same: to create a more compassionate, effective, and equitable system. Alongside my professional work, I have a strong research interest in neurodiversity, social work, social justice, and mental health - like one big lovely venn diagram. I am particularly passionate about trauma-informed care, and working with people where they're at right now, using Rogerian skills such as Unconditional Positive Regard. I have recently completed training in Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused Therapy, which has further strengthened my ability to support individuals in making positive changes in their lives. If you’re interested in discussing best practices in mental health and criminal justice, exploring ways to improve services, or collaborating on initiatives that drive meaningful change, I’d love to connect. Let’s work together to build a system that prioritises recovery, support, and second chances.
