About Afreen Sayed

I have a strong interest in cancer biology with a desire to understand mechanisms of gene regulation and RNA biology. I have a PhD in cancer biology with more than one-year postdoctoral experience looking at gene expression modulation of RNA binding protein in inflammatory disease and colon cancer. My Postdoctoral work involves evaluating the role of RNA binding protein in modulating immune cells in colitis. My thesis work is focused on determining the mechanism by which RNA binding proteins can modulate lncRNAs in cancer. I am also interested in chromatin dynamics and gene expression in the context of cancer progression. In the course of my Ph.D. I have received the prestigious “Faculty for the Future Fellowship” from the Schlumberger foundation. I have won several travel awards from KUCC and American Gastroenterological Association and also have presented at national conferences. This includes an invitation to present a podium talk at the Digestive Disease Week Conference in Washington DC, in 2018. I was involved in multiple projects, receiving co-authorship on several manuscripts related to the use of natural phytochemicals to treat colorectal and pancreatic cancers. My experience has provided me with a strong foundation in basic and translational principles in cancer biology.
