With over 20 years of experience practicing Physical Therapy in New York City, Dr. Afriqiyah Woods, PT, DPT has an expertise in treating orthopedic injuries. Dr. Woods completed a prestigious Sports Medicine fellowship at The American Sports Medicine Institute under renowned orthopedic surgeon; James Andrews M.D. Dr. Woods has extensive experience in treating both professional and amateur athletes. In addition to being a physical therapy clinician, Dr. Woods is an adjunct professor at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in the Department of Physical Therapy, an APTA certified clinical instructor for physical therapy students, and an orthopedic clinical instructor for family medicine residents at Mount Sinai Hospital. She is an APTA Orthopedic and Sports Medicine section member. Dr. Woods is a practitioner of the Graston Technique. Dr. Woods holds a certificate from the Stanford Center for Health Education in Nutrition Science. Her expertise in Sports and Orthopedics provides emphasis on manual techniques and functional integration with every one-on-one treatment session. Dr. Woods has a passion for using her skills domestically and internationally to serve underserved communities. In particular, Dr. Woods has served as a healthcare ambassador in East Africa offering physical therapy services and education to hundreds of rural patients. Dr. Woods received her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Howard University, her Master’s Degree in Sports Science and Athletic Training from Long Island University, and her doctoral degree in physical therapy from Rosalind Franklin University. Her hobbies include basketball, running, spinning, Pilates, and tennis.
