Background

About Ahmed Basharat

I am a PGY-2 Emergency Medicine Resident at Yale, with a focused interest in chronic pain management, acute pain transitions, and interventional pain medicine. I graduated with a BS in Biochemistry and an MD from Texas A&M College of Medicine, where I developed an early interest in the biochemical and physiological mechanisms underlying pain. My work now centers on bridging the gap between emergency care and longitudinal pain outcomes improving functional recovery, reducing opioid reliance, and advancing multimodal analgesia. As Founder of the EMRA Pain Committee, I established a national platform for residents to explore procedural innovation, education, and advocacy in pain medicine. In addition, I serve on the ASRA Resident & Fellow Committee and as an AAPM Ambassador, collaborating on initiatives that promote evidence-based pain practices and trainee engagement across academic and clinical settings. My ongoing projects focus on developing protocols for acute pain management in the emergency department and improving the transition from acute to chronic pain. I aim to build a career at the intersection of emergency medicine, interventional pain, and academic innovation, dedicated to advancing safer, patient-centered pain care nationwide.
