About Aida Brankovic

Brankovic is awarded out-of-the-box thinker and AI researcher with strong math and physics background. Aida is passionate about solving problems and leading the development of ethical and innovative AI/ML-powered solutions that improve decision-making while also enabling the discovery of valuable insights and fostering a deeper understanding. Aida has has extensive experience in data science, data analysis, ML/AI and physics-based modelling applied to different problems and industrial applications. She is chief inventor 2 US patents for novel brain scanning technology that are licensed to the industry partner and was ML lead for AI-enabled clinical decision support tools undergoing commercialisation. Aida led creation of the first guidelines for mitigating ethical risks in the development of AI-powered tools for ICU settings and the checklist for XAI evaluation, registered with the EQUATOR Network https://shorturl.at/EZOsy.She is recipient of the 2025 WiT Emerging Tech Star Award and the Global Australian Global Talent Award Finalist 2022 -the initiative supported by the Australian government- for her contribution to Australia’s reputation as a world leader in medical innovation. In the past few years she's been leading research focusing on trustworthiness and explainability as critical aspects of responsible AI. Her results have been recognised by the International Medical Information Association and awarded the Best Paper Award at the MedInfo 23, world's premier event in digital health and health informatics. She has MSc and BSc in Automatic control and Electronics. Her PhD research focused development of novel model optimisation algorithms for large data applicable to nonlinear model identification and ML frameworks. The main outcome was Distributed Feature Selection algorithm with partial information sharing which ensures privacy preservation. Aida is a Board member for Nature Scientific Reports.
