Background
About Aidan Taylor
I am a designer maker who gets excited by far too many things. My background is in electronic musical instrument design and through this I have found a keen interest in the world of making communities / cultures, makerspaces, repair and social manufacture. I have worked in academia, design and manufacturing and the creative industries for over a decade. I was previously the chairperson of Medrau Maindee Makers charity, and during my time in the role I created Newport Makerspace / Creudy Casnewydd with a team of volunteers. Today, I am Project Manager for the Newport Circular Economy Network. I am Technical Director of HUG by LAUGH, the university spin-out business that created the sensory and therapeutic device HUG™ for people living with advanced dementia. I am also studying for my PhD. I have worked on projects funded by the AHRC and the Welsh Government SMART Expertise Program, and in 2020, collaborated with Newport City Councils Recycling team in my chairperson role to successfully bid for £57,610 in capital funding towards creating Newport Makerspace / Creudy Casnewydd.
