About Aiden Miller

I am a 25-year-old creative with a passion for environmentalism, social justice, and the arts. I majored in Environmental Quality and Systems Analysis, carrying out research into the chemical, biological, and physical state of environmental soil, water, or atmosphere systems in relation to various environmental pressures and the impact on the local and wider environment and organisms. This included setting up research plans, theoretical literature studies, lab and field work, data collection and calculation, report writing, presenting outcomes, and communicating with experts, stakeholders, and clients. The multidisciplinary nature of the degree gave me a strong base in environmental law, legislation, policy, and social theories through in depth academic reading, performing literature reviews, and understanding how to work within theoretical frameworks. In my dissertation I combined my knowledge of environmental analysis and my interest in environmental philosophy and ethics to write a social-philosophical thesis on the neutrality and objectivity of indicators used for environmental systems analysis to highlight the hidden ideology in our scientific methods. At my current position as Cycling Officer at Glasgow Kelvin College, I carry out cycling projects at the College to promote cycling to staff and students. This involves planning and executing (capital) projects through the procurement of funding for cycling projects. I also boost people and community engagement through event organisation and collaboration with other local organisations. By targeting specific groups that need extra support, such as English for Speakers of Other Languages and Support for Learning classes, I hope to create equitable opportunity for everyone at the College; especially considering Kelvin College is situated in some of the most deprived neighbourhoods of Glasgow. By thoroughly monitoring these projects, I am laying the basis for future funding applications and showing the leaders of the College the impact and need for these projects. My contract at Glasgow Kelvin College is to end in August, thus I am looking for opportunities in the environmental and sustainability sector.
