About Aisling Okane

Dia duit! Aisling is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Earth Sciences at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. Her research focuses on earthquake and tsunami hazards and ways to mitigate them, through an interdisciplinary approach using geodynamic modelling, geological fieldwork, satellite observations and computational seismology. In her current role within the ā – MBIE Endeavour Programme, she is developing physics-based modelling approaches to invert paleoseismic data for seismic hazard applications, specifically to determine the location, magnitude, and frequency of historic earthquakes on the Alpine Fault. Alongside her main research, Aisling volunteers her time for international response missions following devastating earthquake and tsunami events as part of the UK’s () and is a geoscience consultant for, a not-for-profit initiative which aims to communicate the links between geoscience and a more sustainable future.
