About Aislinn Clancy

I was born and raised in the region and moved to KW to attend WLU. After completing a business degree I moved to Kitchener and for the past 20 years have been working to build community and support folks who are overcoming oppression. I've worked in international development, settlement services, community health and school social work. Throughout this time I have been walking with marginalized people to help them reach their potential. More recently I have become involved in advocacy as a response to changes in the political landscape that create inequity and harm the planet. For the past 4 years I have been working with community organizations to collaborate and communicate with government to shift climate policy and work to create a basic income framework. This action has involved taking an active leadership role in planning campaigns, training volunteers, developing materials, facilitating educational sessions and working with tracking software/databases. These initiatives have been fueled by ongoing professional development to stay informed of cutting edge technology and science on action to reduce carbon emissions and build awareness about social inequity. In addition to working face to face to build community, I've participated in various media communications to promote climate action in local papers, on social media and various online platforms. My training as a social worker, equips me a tool box to find the motivation in stakeholders to take on the challenge of change. Whether their values are to have financial security, or healthier ecosystems for future generations, mobilizing change and coping with paradigm shifts. My business degree helps me understand and communicate the good case study for investing in climate and equity solutions. I have worked in grass roots organizations and civil service, and have participated on boards. As part of Citizen Climate Lobby, we pushed government to enact and improve the climate fee and dividend policy. With Shift we collaborated with OMERS to improve their climate policies and encourage transition in their portfolio. In my work with Project Neutral, we trained 50 women to become confident leaders in their communities as they support others to act on an individual and systemic level. These are only a few examples of the various campaigns, projects and initiatives to spark mobilization of grassroots groups to encourage systemic change.
