Background

About Ajay Pal

I am a neuroscientist dedicated to advancing therapies for spinal cord injury (SCI) through innovative approaches that merge neuromodulation, gene therapy, and regenerative strategies. With over 15 years of research experience, my work has spanned AIIMS, Burke Neurological Institute, Columbia University, and, currently, Temple University, where I lead independent, funded projects as a Principal Investigator. I pioneered paired brain–spinal cord stimulation to restore motor function in SCI models, contributing to a U.S. patent and directly informing an ongoing NIH-funded clinical trial. My expertise includes viral vector engineering, electrophysiology, neuromodulation (electrical and chemogenetic), behavioral analyses, and advanced kinematics. Beyond research, I am committed to mentoring students and building translational bridges between basic science and clinical practice. My ultimate goal is to drive discoveries that translate into meaningful recovery and improved quality of life for individuals living with paralysis.
