About Ajay Thomas

Ajay is an independent arbitrator and ADR consultant. Until recently he was the inaugural Registrar and Director of Legal Affairs at the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre (OAC). He has had the unique privilege of working with three of the world’s leading arbitration institutions, London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA). Ajay has over 19 years of experience as arbitration administrator, arbitrator, advocate and law teacher. He is a former member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, and is the immediate past Vice Chairman of the Paris-based ICC International Court of Arbitration’s India Arbitration Group. Ajay is on the panel of arbitrators of SCOPE, the apex body of Indian public sector enterprises, and also of the Beihai Asia International Arbitration Centre (BAIAC). He is also a national correspondent for India to UNCITRAL's CLOUT system. He was a member of the expert committee constituted by the Law Commission of India to assist in the preparation of its 246th Report on ‘Amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996’. Ajay is on the International Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Alternative Dispute Resolution (RBADR). He is also a guest faculty at the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management, and a few other law schools, where he teaches international commercial arbitration. He is a member of the Board of Studies (BoS) of the Faculty of Law at Goa University. Ajay also served a year long tenure as Director and Professor of arbitration law at the Faculty of Law at Manav Rachna University.
