About Ajeet Gary

Presently Ajeet Gary is a graduate student at George Mason University (GMU) pursing a PhD in Physics. For the last three years Ajeet has been working with Dr. Scott Noble at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in the Gravitational Astrophysics Laboratory (Code 663). Ajeet’s current research with Dr. Noble at NASA GSFC uses a ray tracing code around a Binary Black Hole (BBH) spacetime to measure and parameterize a hierarchy of shadows cast by the event horizons on an image plane. Their career goals are to become a theoretical astrophysicist and Civil Servant at NASA GSFC specializing in simulations of accreting BBH systems to further humanity’s understanding of how black holes drive galaxy evolution and to help usher in the era of Multi-Messenger astronomy. Ajeet’s background comes from mathematics and computer science, and in particular they have a Master’s degree in Mathematics from New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Maryland. While at NYU Ajeet researched Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics with Courant’s Applied Mathematics Lab resulting in a Master’s Thesis, and while at UMD Ajeet researched Low-Dimensional Topology with UMD’s Experimental Geometry Lab and Brown University’s Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) resulting in several conference presentations and a piece of software. Ajeet has teaching experience as an adjunct lecturer, TA, grader, lab instructor, and tutor, and combines their interests in hobbies involving pedagogical coding tools for math and physics, which on two such occasions earned them First Prize in hackathons (Bitcamp and BostonHacks) utilizing VR/AR software. Ajeet’s hobbies have also manifested in a 1-credit course Visualization Through Mathematica that they created at the University of Maryland which persisted for several semesters after they graduated.
