Background

About Akemi Lucero

I am a Mine Development Superintendent with over a decade of experience in open-pit mining operations across Peru and Colombia. Currently leading strategic initiatives at Anglo American, I oversee road management, dust suppression (PM10), mining and hauling operations, and tire performance—areas critical to safety, efficiency, and sustainability. My focus is on operational excellence through innovation. I’m passionate about identifying and implementing data-driven projects that go beyond the “fire line” of daily operations. I believe in implementing intelligent systems where people are safeguarded and empowered by technology. From optimizing water usage for dust control through evaporation models to improving hauling efficiency with predictive analytics, I aim to build scalable solutions that anticipate scenarios and enhance decision-making.Earlier in my career, I led complex drill and blast operations across coal, iron, copper, and gold projects and published internationally on blast design optimization (ISEE 2019, USA). I’ve also contributed to industry development as co-founder of Young Mining Professionals Peru and continue to mentor mining engineering students through IIMP.I am currently preparing to pursue a master’s degree focused on innovation, finance, and sustainability in the mining industry. My goal is to drive sustainable transformation across the mining value chain, integrating technology, safety, and strategic planning.
