About Akram Shibly
As a child, I spent my summers in Damascus, cultivating a passion for filmmaking and storytelling. I created my first films when I was 10 - cartoons, made with strangers online. I received my Bachelors in Digital Media Production and Philosophy from the University at Buffalo, and launched a production company, True Intent Productions, right out of college. Through my company, I directed the award-winning documentary Waiting at the Door. I signed a deal with Huffington Post and Broadband TV to create original, short-form videos, several of which went viral. In the midst of my company’s success, I returned to university to pursue an MFA in Screenwriting from DePaul in Chicago. Currently, I serve as a Content Producer for Buffalo Toronto Public Media, a PBS and NPR affiliate, while continuing to write and develop stories for the big screen.
